Cigarette causes fire at downtown apartment building

The Calgary Fire Department thinks some improperly disposed cigarettes sparked a blaze in the downtown Thursday afternoon.
Around 1:40 p.m, firefighters knocked down a fire on the roof of a 35-storey building at 505-4th Avenue SW and thankfully there was no damage or injuries.
CFD spokesperson Carol Henke says the fire investigator identified a possible cause very quickly.
“He believed strongly that it was probably improper disposal of smoking materials that had been smoldering for some time that possibly caused this fire.”
Henke says this serves as a reminder of what can happen when you don’t properly put out smoking materials.
