Baby red pandas introduced at Calgary Zoo

There may be snow on the ground but the Calgary Zoo is sure to warm you up with this dose of cuteness.

Two male red panda cubs were introduced at the Eurasia Enclosure at 11 a.m. Friday, where people could catch a first glimpse of the new additions.

Zoo’s spokesperson, Trish Exton-Parder says this is a great achievement for the endangered species.

“Really in the wild there’s fewer than 10,000 left and so when we have a red panda birth it’s incredibly significant. In fact, for their subspecies, there’s only 53 being managed in captive populations, so with these two cubs it’s about 4 per cent of that whole population”

Exton-Parder adds the red panda cubs were born in June but weren’t ready to venture out on their own until now.

There will also be an online contest launching after Thanksgiving to help name the two cubs.
