Vancouver police have kept mum about a serious incident that unfolded at a Canadian Tire in East Vancouver, but witnesses have confirmed an officer has been injured.
It happened around 3:15 p.m. PST Thursday. Reports say shots were fired, and two people were taken to hospital in unknown condition.
A large police presence developed outside the store at Grandview and Rupert streets. Police asked the public to avoid the area.
Tamara was at the store at the time and said it all happened as police were trying to arrest a robbery suspect.
“The methods that they used to keep the guy down, but somehow he got back up and one of the officers was injured. There was gunfire on and off, so I don’t know if he, the officer, was shot or stabbed. I don’t know, but I saw him grab his stomach, bend over and fall backwards, and then the other officers, and more cars are arriving now, okay, back-up and they have his guns on him, they’re yelling at him to drop his weapon and stand down and he would not relent. They shot him because he wasn’t going to stand down,” she said.
