Calgary police are warning you about the dangers of online hookups after two men who responded to online personal ads were assaulted and robbed.
In December, a man arranged to meet someone in a northeast hotel room, but was visited by a man and a woman who took out a machete, held him against his will, then assaulted and robbed him.
It happened again a few weeks later to another man, who arranged to meet someone at his home.
Police think the same two people may have committed other crimes.
“We have information to believe they may have being doing similar activity up in Edmonton,” Detective Tracy Garagan explained. “When you’re responding to an ad and then you’re going to a place that you have no idea where you’re going or inviting strangers into the house, I think you’re always at some sort of risk.”
Bradley Zehr, 31, and Caitlyn Wiemer, 25, are charged with assault and unlawful confinement.
