Lilydale plant to move as part of deal with city

The Lilydale plant, which has been a staple in the Ramsay community for decades and has also generated many complaints, will soon be on the move.

Sofina Foods and the City of Calgary are working on an agreement to move the plant to the Dufferin Industrial Park in the southeast to make way for the Green Line LRT.

The new transit line will require the land at Lilydale’s current location at 2126 Hurst Rd to accommodate the elevated guideway for the future LRT line.

“We believe the Green Line LRT will help create vibrant and sustainable communities,” said Michael Thompson, Director of Transportation Infrastructure in a statement. “Strategic land purchases such as this will enable development to occur over time around our transit stations.”

Sofina Founder, Chairman and CEO Michael Latifi says the new site will work well for them.

“As a long-term and a sustainable partner, our commitment to Alberta producers remains unchanged,” said Lafiti. “The new site is ideally situated to ensure a smooth transition for our producers, for our suppliers and for our employees.”

The deal is expected to be completed late next year.
