A decade after deadly stabbing, Jackie Crazybull’s family continues to march for justice

Jackie Crazybull would have turned 53 Sunday. But on her birthday her siblings continue to grieve and walk the streets to the scene where she took her last breath in the 10th Justice for Jackie walk.

“If you’re the one that murdered her, we’re going to keep on doing this for Jackie and we’re not going to give up. Her children are way too important. You have robbed her children of their mother,” said Sandra Manyfeathers, who called her older sister a hero and protector.

On July 11, 2007, Jackie was on 17th Avenue S.W. when she was fatally stabbed. She was one of five victims in a string of random attacks. Manyfeathers said her sister was helping people in a vehicle that had stopped to ask for directions before they stabbed her. No one has been charged.

A few dozen people gathered in the Beltline neighbourhood for a march to 17th Avenue and 11 Street. S.W. Jackie’s older brother said the event is a small solace for a family that’s been grieving for a decade.

“It really helps us out in a way because of all the support that they bring us and I’m grateful for everybody that showed up,” said Daniel Crazybull.

He said after so long, finding a suspect is “in god’s hands.”

Calgary Police reopened the murder investigation last October. Sandra said police identified three men, persons of interest in the case, but officers haven’t been able to charge them.

Five people were injured in the 2007 attack, Jackie was the only one who was killed.
