A man accused of trying to kill his parents in their sleep must undergo a psychiatric assessment before appearing in court later this week.
Police in Lethbridge say a 72-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman had been asleep in their bedroom on Sunday when their son allegedly entered the room, stabbed them, and then fled.
The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and has since been released while the woman was treated at the scene by EMS.
Police say they arrested the couple’s 28-year-old son a short distance away, and they say they’re not naming him in order to protect the identity of the alleged victims.
