Environment Protection Order issued for decommissioned Sears gas station

Sears Canada and Concord North Hill have been told to continue environmental monitoring at the site of an old gas station at the now closed Sears location in North Hill Centre.

The Alberta Government issued the order for the two companies in connection to an underground service station tank that leaked back in the late 1970’s and early 80’s.

The service station, which was decommissioned in 1995, was owned by Sears.

As part of the Environmental Protection Order, the companies must recommence soil vapour monitoring and groudwater sampling right away.

This also includes an on and off-site remediation plan that needs to be handed in by December 15.
