Hoping for a full recovery, CPA provides update on officer shot during standoff

Constable Jordan Forget was shot Tuesday after a standoff escalated in the northeast Calgary community of Abbeydale.
He suffered two gunshot wounds and is recovering from a collapsed lung, among other injuries.
President of the Calgary Police Association Les Kaminski visited Forget after the shooting Tuesday and again Wednesday.
“I was preparing for the very worst and searching for words that I could use to help to comfort the family. I really expected this to be much, much worse. He’s a resilient, tough guy. He smiled at me when I walked in the room,” said Kaminski.
“He’s still got a great sense of humour. He’s very responsive. He’s doped up to help with the pain, but he’s very coherent, and I think he realizes what the consequences could have been.”
Kaminski says Forget is surrounded by a strong support system of family, friends and members of the police force.
“He’s being inundated with visitors. As a matter of fact, they had to do some stop gaps to slow the flow down because he needed to get some rest.”
Kaminski adds the outpouring of support from everyday Calgarians has been overwhelming.
“We’ve been through some rough times, and I think this blows policing down to its essences, the risks our members take each and every day going out to protect the citizens of Calgary. I’ll tell you what, the citizens have absolutely stepped to the plate and have backed our members and it’s huge.”
Kaminski is hopeful Forget will make a full recovery.
