King Eddy re-opens in East Village

The historic King Edward Hotel reopens, Friday, as a live music venue, bar and restaurant.

The King Eddy was built in 1905 and became known as the place for the blues in Calgary.

John Rutherford was a former performer and patron.

“It seemed like it was an unusual fit at first,” he teld City News, “but then it took off and it became a very, very popular night spot and people were very hip to the music.”

The King Eddy closed in 2004, later being bought by the National Music Centre who worked with the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation to bring the building back to life.
