Residents growing frustrated with delays of the Springbank Dam Project

CALGARY (660 NEWS)– It’s been more than five years since the devastating 2013 floods.

A group of flood victims is growing frustrated with the delays to the Springbank Dam Project.

Brenda Leeds-Binder with Calgary River Communities Action Group said the dam would protect the downtown core, but she admits there’s a lot of uncertainty hanging over the project.

“With us moving into election times and then not knowing if there is going to be a change in government, and not knowing what that impact may have, it is certainly frustrating to think about how long it has been.”

A few rural landowners and Tsuu T’ina leadership have spoken against the flood prevention project, they’d rather see MacLean Creek Dammed.

The project was approved in 2014, construction is expected to start by the end of 2019.
