Calgary welcomes new bike share service

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Get ready to cruise the streets of downtown on an electric bicycle; LimeBike has rolled out close to 400 bikes in the city.

The bikeshare service costs a dollar a day, and 30 cents a minute to rent. The only requirement to rent a LimeBike is an account on its app and a helmet.

Spokesperson Nathan Carswell says they have been very mindful about where to launch the bikes

“[In] service areas so that companies can focus in and around the urban centre and connect to train stations and areas of activity where Calgarians want to go that aren’t necessarily downtown,” he said, adding that it’s important that the bikes are in areas with good snow clearing, since the launch happened in time for winter.

Carswell adds it’s super easy to use. Just set up an account on the app.

“You can pick one up on your way to the destination then leave it once you get there,” he said. “It’s very similar to Car2go.”

Bikes will be available all winter long in the downtown. The company looks to expand outside of the core this coming spring.
