HINTON (660 NEWS) – Alberta’s Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been sent to Hinton to investigate a police involved shooting Tuesday morning that left both a 24-year-old man and an RCMP officer injured.

It started as police were investigating a stolen vehicle case at around 9:30 that morning.

According to the RCMP, there was some sort of confrontation, that’s when one of the officers was struck by the truck. Their partner fired his service pistol.

The suspect fled on foot, he was discovered a short time later. They also took the 17-year-old girl into custody.

The man wasn’t aware he had been shot, he was taken to the detachment and searched. That’s where he discovered he had a gunshot wound to his lower body.

He was treated in hospital and discharged later that day back into the custody of the Mounties.

The injured officer was also sent to hospital and has since been treated for non-life threatening injuries.
