Edmonton Oil Kings defeat the Calgary Hitmen in over time action

Edmonton, AB [660 NEWS] Andrew Fyten scored 40 seconds into overtime to propel the Edmonton Oil Kings past the Calgary Hitmen 3-2 on Saturday at Rogers Place.

The Oil Kings came back from a 2-0 second period deficit on goals from Vince Loschiavo and David Kope.

It was Kope’s marker with 8:28 remaining that forced extra time.

The loss snapped Calgary’s five game winning streak but the single point moves them into a tie for the final Eastern Conference Wildcard spot with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Kaden Elder with his 13th goal of the season and Jake Kryski with his 17th replied for the Hitmen.

Edmonton out shot Calgary 44-34 with both goalies named stars of the game. Jack McNaughton of the Hitmen finished with 41 saves while Dylan Myskiw made 32 stops.

Calgary was 1-3 on the power play and killed all six shorthanded situations.

The Hitmen now return home Sunday, Dec. 16 for a matinee against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Game time is 4:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome for the final contest before an 11 day holiday break.
