Calgary airport prepares for one of the busiest days of the year

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Thursday is the busiest day for flying before Saint Nick takes to the sky for Christmas Eve. The airport is expecting some 49,000 passengers through the gates today.

660 NEWS spoke with travellers at the Calgary International Airport to see how they’re dealing with the crowds. Rob, a passenger heading to San Francisco, had no idea it would be so busy and is glad he got to the airport early for his flight.

He isn’t the only one at the airport heading to destinations that could make you a little jealous this time of year. Other travellers are headed to places like Maui, Houston, Cancun and other destinations that don’t feature negative temperatures.

Colin is headed to Puerto Vallarta and said the weather at home has been pretty good, but that doesn’t mean the beach won’t be calling his name.

“It’s not too bad actually, the weather right now is actually great,” he said. “Glad it’s not colder going to Mexico.”

Though he learned today is going to be a busy day at the airport, he’s not worried about the crowds because he showed up early for his flight.

That is one of the biggest tips the Calgary International Airport is offering passengers — to arrive extra early for your flight. YYC recommends showing up at least two hours before a domestic flight, and three hours for international.
