Man dead, two sent to hospital after explosion at welding shop in Nisku

NISKU (660 NEWS) — Leduc RCMP have confirmed one man is dead after an explosion at a welding shop, south of Edmonton. RCMP, EMS and health and safety personnel responded to the blast at Ja-Co Welding around 8:15 a.m. this morning in Nisku.

A man in his early 40s was found dead on arrival, while EMS transported two middle-aged men to a hospital, one with life-threatening injuries and the other in stable condition. RCMP stated the men are employees of the company.

According to Const. Mike Hibbs, the explosion was related to a small fire that developed inside a compound housing acetylene, a colourless gas commonly used for welding.

Family members of the man who died have been contacted and his name is not being released out of respect for his family.
