CAPP makes its demands known for the next election

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Ahead of the spring election, an organization representing oil and gas producers has some requests for the future Alberta government.

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) has released a list of recommendations on the oil and gas sector stating that local investment is increased in the sector so that international investment will be attracted as well.

President and CEO of CAPP Tim McMillan said they aren’t endorsing a specific party, but success in Alberta relies on a stable industry.

“We just need our elected officials to create an environment so that the world recognizes Alberta is an attractive oil and gas jurisdiction and we can reclaim our position as a capital investment jurisdiction.”

McMillan said that the province has a potential to be one of the most attractive places for investment but only if people vote for energy in the next election and to do that investment for the industry needs to double.

“We would overtake, as a country, Iraq and China and becoming the world’s fourth-largest oil producer, that we could overtake Iran and Qatar and be the world’s third largest natural gas producer. It’s going to take us doing things right, but it’s absolutely achievable.”

CAPP believes Alberta can balance the economy and climate policy, while also displacing less responsible sources of supply from around the world.
