NISKU (660 NEWS) – An RCMP officer has been charged with assault after a violent arrest near Edmonton in 2017.
On Nov. 15 of that year in Nisku, a man was arrested in a gas station for possession of stolen property.
During the arrest, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says the officer used physical force on the 26-year-old, including striking him with handcuffs.
He suffered serious injuries, including a facial fracture.
The province’s police watchdog has now charged Cpl. Peter MacMillan with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.
He is due to appear in court next month.
