Rocky View School program helping students gain credits while building homes

COCHRANE (660 NEWS) — A program called Building Futures is helping grade ten students in Cochrane use their year to learn how to build a house while still being taught their core classes.

Kingsmith Homes, in a partnership with the Rocky View School Division, has sought out to help these students get a chance at being introduced to every angle of home construction, in a class that they will be helping to build themselves. All while getting their high school education right on site.

The program has helped students learn important skills while also teaching them everyday life lessons.

“Simple things, like learning how to shake a hand and make eye contact, how to ask questions so you know what you’re doing instead of blindly walking around.” the owner of Kingsmith Homes, Craig Wiens said.

The initiative is currently in its sixth year of work, with a handful of students being selected to be a part of the program each year.

You can follow the progress of all the students and their work on Twitter by clicking here.
