Crews respond to ammonia leak at new YMCA
CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Calgary Fire Department responded to the brand new Seton YMCA Wednesday morning for reports of an ammonia leak.
Crews responded to the facility on Front Street in the southeast just after 4:00 am when an ammonia alarm went off near one of the rinks.
When they arrived, ammonia readings registered at 37 ppm (parts per million). While the limit is 50 ppm, set by the province’s Agriculture and Forestry ministry, crews worked to ensure the leak didn’t reach that level.

The company that services the rinks, Simco Chemicals, was called in to deal with the leak.
As of 6:00 am the fire department said that the leak has been contained and the YMCA will run as scheduled. No one was injured.
