Calgary Hitmen encouraging students to “Be Brave”

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Anti-bullying and inclusion are messages being echoed around the city and at the Saddledome Wednesday for Pink Shirt Day.

To celebrate the message the Calgary Hitmen are playing their 3rd annual “Be Brave” game.

Close to 14,000 Calgary and area school kids will fill the Saddledome for the game along with a handful of special guest speakers.

“We’re inviting Rob Cote, former Grey Cup champion and alumni from the Calgary Stampeders to come in. We’re going to perform an anti-bullying pledge that Telus has done before at WE Day so Rob will be leading the crowd in that,” said Robb Kerr, Assistant Manager for Business Operations with the Hitmen.

Other guest speakers for the game include Rilee Many Bears, an Indigenous runner from the Siksika nation who competed in the World Indigenous Games in Brazil in 2015 and former Olympic sprinter Akeem Haynes.

The doors to the Saddledome will open at 9:30 a.m. with puck drop set for 11:00.
