CALGARY (660 NEWS) — It’s going to cost you more if your home generates extra garbage.
Calgary council has given final approval to a tag-a-bag program, that will charge $3 for each bag of trash that does not fit into a black cart.
Council voted 10 to 4; the program will begin in 2020.

City administration says the tags will result in a reduction of black cart fees by 10 cents a month. It’s also believed that the tag-a-bag program would avoid $500,000 in collection and disposal costs.
Officials estimate around 8 to 12 per cent of material thrown into blue bins should not be there in the first place, and it has to be sorted out at extra cost.
People in Airdrie and Cochrane already pay the same fee.
