Spruce Meadows looks to fix Cavalry parking woes

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Spruce Meadows is working to make changes to its parking after fans of the Cavalry FC threw the red card during the team’s inaugural game last Saturday.

Fans took to social media sharing their frustration over the fact it took close to an hour and a half to find parking, forcing them to miss the first half.

President and Chief Operating Officer Ian Allison said that Spruce Meadows is trying to fix issues that are in their control.

“We have opened up four new access areas into parking here at Spruce Meadows because we have lost a number of access areas due to the construction of the southwest Calgary Ring Road,” Allison said.

Tournament Lane S.W. and 24th Street S.W. are both closed due to the construction.

Allison adds that Spruce Meadows will also be open two hours before kick off to give fans more time to access the property.

On game day, Spruce Meadows is also offering a complimentary shuttle service from the Somerset – Bridlewood LRT station.

Allison said that around 400 people took the shuttle Saturday, and the feedback they got from those riders was positive.

“We are hoping that the service continues to grow and that people can hop off at the LRT at the end of the line and hop on the shuttle that will get them to the grounds.”

The Cavalry’s next home game Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
