CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A former officer with the Calgary Police Service is now behind bars.
Thomas Buttle was sentenced on Monday to eight months in prison for accessing child pornography.
Defence lawyer Alain Hepner noted a psychiatric report concluded his client had a low to moderate risk to reoffend.
The minimum sentence is six months but the crown prosecutor pointed out that the images were viewed on a home computer, while Buttle was a police officer.
The charges were laid in March 2018 after a tip from the U.S. National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children that someone had uploaded seven pictures to an internet sharing site.
