CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Students in Calgary were out on Friday voicing their concerns surrounding climate change.
The rally organized by Calgary Youth United, set themselves up outside City Hall as part of a global protest to take action against climate change.
“I think it’s really important to have youth activists out protesting because it is our future that’s being affected by the decisions everyone is making,” said Lexi Chambers.
She says the group is inspired by Greta Thunberg, a 15-year-old Swedish girl who strikes every Friday for climate change.
The group has joined in the trend started by Thunberg, by being outside City Hall every Friday as well, with around 100 students taking part in the most recent protest.
“I think Calgary itself can work to ban single-use plastics, we can make our buses run on electricity,” Kieran Anand who participated in the rally. “I think there’s a lot we can do as a city to make a huge impact.”
