Friends celebrate life of domestic violence victim

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Only a few weeks have gone by since Dorsa Dehdari was killed in a domestic violence incident at her home in the northwest community of Kincora in Calgary.

Now friends and family are gathering to celebrate the life of the 22-year-old who was studying media and communication at the University of Calgary. Her close friend Parin Rohani remembers her as a positive person whose energy was infectious.

“She was just so friendly and nice and she made me feel like I was never alone or left out,” Rohani said. The two became friends at a mutual friend’s birthday party. “There are so many good things about her that I will remember. Right now I just feel like that she is still here with me — she was the person that I would go to, and she is still in my prayers.”

Calgary police have called the incident that left Dorsa and her father Heidar Dehdari dead a domestic homicide.

Shortly after the incident, Kincora residents held a vigil and tied ribbons on the trees in the community to honour the victims including Dorsa’s younger sister who was left with life-altering injuries.

As Parin prepares to say goodbye to her friend, she is “sure that I will remember her for the rest of my life.”
