CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary’s mayor is pleased to see the federal government has given the green light to the Trans Mountain pipeline.
Speaking at an event, Mayor Naheed Nenshi had a chance to speak about the resilience of Calgary and why the TMX announcement is so exciting.
“It’s a big day, it’s a big day for Calgary, It’s a big day for the Canadian economy,” said Nenshi. “We are thrilled that the TMX pipeline has been approved, we are thrilled that construction is starting now, that we will have shovels in the ground this summer for this important piece of national infrastructure.”

Now all of the excitement did not come without the Mayor’s reservations, He says bills C-69 and C-48 continue to be a potential problem moving forward.
“We have to be able to do industrial projects in this country and remember it’s not just about pipelines, it’s about hydro-electric plants, it’s about other major industrial projects.”
Nenshi is urging Ottawa to respect the amendments that have been made by the Senate to C-69 as he believes it is key to building investor confidence while spending less time in the courts.
