CALGARY (660 NEWS) – There are already electric bikes scattered throughout the city and soon Calgarians will be seeing electric scooters.
The Shared Electric Scooter Pilot, which is a 16-month pilot program, was given the green light by the city and scooters could be seen as early as this week.
Companies looking to provide scooters to Calgarians can start to fill out permit applications.
Scooters will be available to those who are 18-years and older. While helmets are encouraged for riders they aren’t mandatory.
The maximum speed is 20km/hr and people will be able to ride them on sidewalks, bike lanes and parks and pathways.
The city is allowing third-party operators to launch up to 1000 scooters each.
Just like that bikeshare pilot project, the scooters will not be required to be returned to a kiosk or docking station.
