Despite sometimes being seen as a nuisance, the City of Calgary says coyotes play a vital role in the city’s ecosystem.
They say urban coyotes help control populations of other wildlife, especially rodents, from becoming problematic.
Regardless, the city says you need to be cautious around coyotes.

They say you should never feed coyotes or leave pet food outside, be mindful of where your children are and don’t leave them unattended. You should also carry a loud whistle in areas that have coyotes and throw all garbage in park containers and pick up after your pet.
