Charges laid in hockey fight at Lethbridge tournament

LETHBRIDGE (660 NEWS) – Lethbridge police have laid charges following a brawl at a children’s hockey tournament Sunday night.
The fight was caught on video and posted by sportscaster Dean Millard. In the 10-second clip, at least three men are seen approaching a referee, attempting to corner him to the endboards. One man shoves another to the ice, leaving two confronting the ref, fists in the air.

The fight happened during a game in the Quest for the Cup 3-on-3 tournament.
Police said they’ve charged a 55-year-old man and additional charges are pending against a 36-year-old man.

Investigators said that at the end of the game, a 10-year-old player was involved in a verbal altercation with a ref which escalated to the player slashing the ref twice that’s when the official pushed the player to the ice.
Several men, including coaches and a relative of the player, came onto the ice. A coach from the opposing team was shoved to the ground and the ref was punched multiple times by the player’s family member and a second man before the altercation was broken up.
In a statement on Facebook, High Performance Hockey, which organized the event, said, “Actions like this have no place in our game. We are especially disappointed to see an act like this occur.”
Robert Farrell Creighton, 55, of Standoff, is charged with one count of assault and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 9.
