Memorial Drive gets automated lane reversal system
Calgary (660 NEWS) — The city is asking drivers to pay extra attention on Memorial Dr., as they’ve installed a permanent automated lane reversal system.
The affected lanes are on Memorial Dr. between Edmonton Tr. NE and 4 St.

Orange traffic cones will be placed on the road by city workers to indicate which lanes can be accessed.
Starting in October, the cones will no longer be placed, instead, motorists will be expected to look at the above lane gate which indicates a green arrow for lanes you may access and a red cross above the lanes you may not cross into.
City workers will set up orange pylons to indicate which lanes motorists can use. However, they’ll stop doing that in October and you’re expected to look at the lane gate above the street to figure out what lanes you can and can’t use. #yyc #yyctraffic @660NEWS @660NEWSTraffic pic.twitter.com/rSlBh8SFAb

The lane reversal system provides two westbound left turning lanes off 4 St. into the downtown core at all times of the day except between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.
During that time period, motorists will have two dual eastbound lanes that lead you down Edmonton Trail.
“It’s a big change that drivers need to be aware of,” said Pat Griask, Senior Leader of Operational Improvements with the City of Calgary. “We are asking motorists to exercise caution while driving through the area.”
The changes took effect Tuesday at 6 p.m.
