Fire engulfs Dairy Queen in Balmoral

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgary fire crews were called to fight a blaze at a Dairy Queen on Centre St. north at 19 Ave. at around 5:30 p.m.

EMS confirmed that there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Ellen Langille lives down the street from the Dairy Queen and went outside to investigate when she heard sirens.

“I just happened to hear the sirens and looked out the window, my dog was barking and saw traffic stopped, an ambulance across the street, and then the firetrucks came,” she described.

Pictures and video from the scene show smoke billowing from the building.

Frank was at work across the street when he saw the fire unfold.

“There might be four trucks at least plus EMS vehicles, at least one of them and police vehicles, of course, surrounding the place to keep onlookers away, and then a few of us who were brave enough to stand out and take a few pictures,” he said.

“A mechanical arm is up over the top of the burning building and now they are spraying water into it.”
