CALGARY (660 NEWS) — For women with breast cancer, life will never be the same.
Their options for what things could look like afterward are not always clear.
An event is coming up on Oct. 23 to provide answers and help them choose a path.
The Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day offers up all the details about everything from reconstruction to prosthetics.
Event planner Laura McNeill says they’ll have surgeons on hand at the Foothills Hospital Health Sciences Centre along with breast cancer survivors outlining the pros and cons of every option.
Laura, also a survivor, was not able to attend a BRA Day before her surgery.
“I would have loved to have been able to see the different surgical results before I made my decision.”
However, she says the event is also valuable after the fact, connecting those facing the disease with others who know what they’re going through.
“You just connect on a different level, you know, nobody can get it unless they’ve been through it.”
She says it was also helpful for her husband to be able to talk to other partners.
BRA Day will be held on the evening of Oct. 23 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Libin Theatre, Health Sciences Centre, Foothills Hospital, 3310 Hospital Drive NW.
