Calgary mom hopes to find family cat after it was adopted out

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A southwest Calgary mom has taken to social media to try to get the family cat back after it was adopted out by the city.
Tanis Behnke says their two-year-old tabby named Maggie was accidentally let out by one of her kids a week and a half ago. When she finally tracked their pet down at animal services it was too late.
“They said that she had been adopted already and there was nothing they could do for me at that time.”
According to the city’s website, it is policy to keep unidentified animals for four days and then put them up for adoption.
While Behnke is not blaming the city, she is hoping the people who adopted Maggie will hear her family’s story and consider giving her back for the sake of her four young children.
“They’re pretty stressed. My nine-year-old was pretty stressed last night and just cried all night.”
Behnke has posted to Facebook in hopes of trying to catch the attention of the person who adopted Maggie.
The post has been shared a few hundred times.
Behnke says they will reimburse the adoption fees that the new owner would have paid if they would like to give Maggie back.
