Second World War plane makes its home in Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A relic of the Second World War has made its home at a Calgary museum.
A Hawker Hurricane aircraft which once flew over the west coast to keep Canada safe from attacks approaching from the pacific ocean was unveiled this week at the Hangar Flight Museum.
Museum Executive Director Brian Desjardins said the plane has been restored over the past several years and is fully operational.
“You can’t get any more truer of an aircraft for a Hawker Hurricane. Calgary has one of the most authentic, original Hawker Hurricanes in the world.”
A Hawker Hurricane has landed at The Hangar Flight Museum.
This fighter plane helped guard Canada’s coastline after Pearl Harbor was attacked, flown by service men like Gordon Hill.

In a ceremony held Thursday, a veteran who once flew the Hawker was on hand.
“The 5-389 was not used in the Battle of Britain but the Hurricanes were very important in the Second World War. It did serve in defense of the west coast and Gordon Hill, a flying officer that is a local, Calgary resident flew that aircraft.”
Only sixty Hawker Hurricanes were made during the war. The plane will be on display at the museum this weekend.
