Broadcast Standards Council website overwhelmed with Don Cherry complaints

OTTAWA – It appears so many Canadians took issue with comments from Don Cherry that the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC) can no longer accept formal complaints.
On Saturday, the Coach’s Corner co-host made comments regarding new immigrants to Canada and Remembrance Day poppies during a Hockey Night In Canada broadcast.

His opinions immediately drew online backlash, prompting an apology from Sportsnet and Cherry’s co-host Ron MacLean.
Now, the CBSC–the group which takes and investigates serious complaints against Canadian media–says it cannot handle any more complaints regarding Cherry or his controversial comments.
“The CBSC has received a large number of very similar complaints concerning Coach’s Corner broadcast on CBC (Sportsnet) on November 9, 2019, exceeding the CBSC’s technical processing capacities,” reads a notice in red at the top of the Make A Complaint page of the CBSC’s website.
“Accordingly, while the CBSC will be dealing with this broadcast under its normal process, it is not able to accept any further complaints.”
Cherry has yet to respond to the backlash.
