CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary Flames defenseman T.J. Brodie has collapsed during a practice Thursday afternoon.

According to Sportsnet’s Eric Francis, Brodie was in the middle of a drill when he collapsed to the ice.

“It very quickly became apparent that he was in some severe medical distress, he was in convulsions. Teammates rushed to him right away and an ambulance was called and ultimately taken to hospital.”

Francis says Brodie was responsive while he was wheeled to the ambulance.

He adds the incident left the entire team in shock.

“Everybody’s just kind of numb right now. It’s a very unnerving situation, people are in shock. Practice was cancelled immediately.”

Flames General Manager tweeted a response saying Brodie is alert and responsive and had been transported to hospital for evaluation.

Shortly before 6 p.m., the Flames tweeted some good news that Brodie had been discharged and is recovering at home.
