The damage is extensive and engineers will likely be called in Saturday to see if the structure of the building has been compromised.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) confirm they began receiving calls around 4:30 p.m. Friday of the fire near the intersection of 14 Street and 23 Avenue S.W.

Crews say the three-alarm fire began on the fifth level of the building.

The fire happening at a tough time of the year, with Christmas coming right after the weekend, those who live in building have been told they likely won’t be let back in soon.

Calgary Transit buses were brought in to keep those displaced by the fire, warm.
