Safety tips for highway driving over the holidays

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – With Environment Canada forecasting flurries and below zero temperatures across the province, it’s important to make sure you’re prepared when travelling on the highway.

A 2019 survey by the Alberta Motor Association found that one in three Albertans don’t have emergency kits in their car. The survey also found 45 per cent of those without a kit plan to get one but “haven’t gotten around to it.”

AMA lists blankets, caution triangles, a self-powered flashlight, and a shovel among the items that you should have in case you break down.

Before you hit the road to visit with family this Christmas, put a roadside kit in the car. Charge up a portable battery, check your spare tire, and let someone know when you’re on your way.
