GoFundMe for Flames billboard in Edmonton reaches its goal

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A GoFundMe page to put a Calgary Flames player on Edmonton billboards has reached it’s goal.

The campaign was launched following a bitter feud in the recent battle of Alberta between the Flames and Oilers on Jan. 11.

During the hard-fought game, Flames player Matthew Tkachuk drilled Edmonton’s Zack Kassian and sent his helmet flying.

In response, Kassian grabbed Tkachuk, punching him and throwing him to the ice.

Following the debacle, fans chose to fan the flames and start the GoFundMe page to put Tkachuk’s face on multiple billboards in the City of Edmonton.

The page said that fans have “decided that Edmonton deserves to see much more of Matthew Tkachuk”.

The page organizer says they’ll now present their request to the Calgary Flames but if the billboards don’t go ahead, the funds will be donated to support ALS research.

The Oilers and the Flames have met twice so far on the ice this 2019-2020 season, witch Calgary coming away with the win both times.
