Guard at Calgary Remand Centre charged with assault

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Allegations of abuse have led to charges against a guard at the Calgary Remand Centre.
Calgary police were asked to investigate a year ago, following two incidents on the same day.
An inmate claims to have been struck while in a cell, and a handful of others say they were also assaulted after a fight had ended in the jailyard.
The same correctional peace officer is accused in both cases.
Twenty-nine-year-old Heera Singh Chahal is facing one count of assault with a weapon and four counts of assault causing bodily harm.
He’s due to make a court appearance on April 15.
