Calgary fire taking COVID-19 precautions

Calgary (660 NEWS) – Front line workers continue to work through the COVID-19 pandemic but, with the virus starting to infect those working to fight it, shortages are bound to happen.
Such was the case in the Calgary Fire Department, according to President of the Calgary Fire Association Mike Henson.
“When this all started, we booked down three engines. It was a temporary thing, it was one shift.”
He says members of Calgary Fire have been in quarantine for days but not because they had come into contact with the virus, but to follow the AHS guidelines for returning to the city from outside the country.
In response, the department is changing firefighter’s work shifts.
“Currently, there are two shifts in a 24-hour period. We are going to move that to one shift in a 24-hour period.”
The change is to help limit the firefighters going in and out of the hall and limit possible exposure.
