Shaw announces layoffs related to COVID-19

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Shaw Communications has announced the laying off of around 10 per cent of its workforce due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company said the temporary layoffs will largely affect those in the retail and sales roles and will begin on April 16.

“We value the hard work and expertise of all our employees in helping deliver connectivity to our customers across the country. Unfortunately, these changes are necessary until our business activities resume to more normal levels,” said Shaw President Paul McAleese in a release.

Financial support will be provided to affected employees, on top of government programs, and Shaw said it hopes to welcome them back into the fold when the conditions improve.
