Alberta posting location and facilities where active COVID-19 outbreaks have occurred

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — Alberta Health Services is adding an addition to its COVID-19 webpage by naming the locations of outbreaks in acute care and continuing care facilities in the province.
The list is organized by zone with Calgary having the most facilities with outbreaks at 25.
“I know the word outbreak may seem alarming, especially when there are a number of them and when some of them show a large number of cases,” Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, said Tuesday.
“It is important to remember that the outbreaks we are posting are any sites where we have seen two or more cases.”
The two or more cases indicate to health officials that transmission within the facility has occurred, Hinshaw added.
Outbreaks are declared over when four weeks have passed with no new cases, so not all outbreaks listed have current transmission happening.
Case numbers for outbreaks at specific sites will not be provided online because they change rapidly.
