TORONTO (660 NEWS) – After trading the 1st overall pick to the BC Lions, the Calgary Stampeders selected Southeastern Louisiana University defensive lineman Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund with the third overall pick in Thursday’s 2020 CFL draft.
The Stamps sent the 1st overall pick and their 2nd-round selection (15th overall) to BC in exchange for the third overall pick and the Lions’ 2nd-round selection (12th overall pick).
Adeyemi-Berglund, a six-foot-two, 250-lb. Dartmouth, N.S., product was second-team all-Southland Conference in 2019 after putting up 61 total tackles including 16 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three quarterback hurries and four pass breakups in 13 games.
The Lions used the 1st overall pick to draft linebacker Jordan Williams.
The five-foot-11, 219-pound Williams hasn’t played football since 2017 when he finished second in tackles at East Carolina with 89 including three for a loss with a forced fumble.
The 27-year-old is an American by birth but is deemed a national for the draft because his mother is Canadian.
The Stampeders then took wide receiver Trivel Pinto from UBC in the 2nd round, (12th overall).
The 3rd round (21st overall) saw the Stamps draft Simon Fraser wide receiver Rysen John and OL Jonathan Zamora (26th overall).
Waterloo linebacker Kurtis Gray was taken by the red & white in the 4th round (31st overall) followed by wide receiver Tyson Middlemost (34th overall).
No selections in the 5th round but the 6th round saw the Stampeders select DL Andrew Seinet-Spaulding out of McGill. (52nd overall)
St. Francis Xavier Kicker Keiran Burnham was then taken with the 61st overall pick in the 7th round followed by the Stamp’s final selection in the 8th round, CB Michael Asibuo from Concordia with the 70th overall pick.
