Fire crews battle grass fire near Tsuut’ina Nation

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – City firefighters, along with crews from the Tsuut’ina, battled a large grass fire in the far southwest for around three hours on Friday.

It was 11 a.m. when the calls started pouring into the fire department and the 660 newsroom, as the thick smoke from the fire could be spotted from several kilometres away.

13 pieces of apparatus from Calgary and four from Tsuut’ina Nation were utilized to battle the fire, which was only a few hundred metres from the Tsuut’ina boundary at one point.

The fire was in a field around 53 Street and 146 Avenue southwest and did threaten some structures, but the only damage was about 16 hectares of burned field.

The Calgary Fire Department reminds citizens that care must be taken with outside fires due to dry spring conditions.
