Flames sign goalie Dustin Wolf to entry-level deal

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Hungry like the wolf.

The Calgary Flames have inked goalie Dustin Wolf to a three-year entry-level contract.

The 19-year-old, who hails from Tustin, California, had an outstanding 2019-20 campaign with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

He led the league with nine shutouts, had the lowest goals-against average (1.88), the highest save percentage (.936%) and was tied for the most wins.

Calgary picked Wolf in the seventh round of the 2019 draft, the fourth-from-last player selected.

“There are two ways to do it: it can crush you, or it can motivate you,” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said of Wolf’s experience at the draft.

“Congratulations to the kid. It motivated him. He had an awesome year in Everett. I think Calgary’s looking at this like ‘we’re taking a bit flyer, and we’ve got someone who looks like a bit of a player.’ And I think it’s a great thing.”

Wolf was also nominated for the WHL’s 2019-20 Del Wilson Memorial Trophy as top goaltender, and the winner will be announced later this month.
