CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Residents of a Downtown apartment building were evacuated after a bullet was fired through units.
After shutting down an area between 8 Avenue and 10 Street SW for about two hours, Calgary police raided an apartment to find the suspect was gone.
It all started just before 11:30 Wednesday morning when a resident of the building — across from the Mewata Armoury — reported a gunshot through his wall from the unit next door.
Police converged on the scene with a tactical team and an armoured vehicle containing the area and evacuating the building.
However, after almost two hours they went into the apartment to discover no one was inside.
Police say these situations can be high-risk to citizens and they have to take all precautions.
“Firearm calls are extremely challenging and dangerous for our officers and the public,” said Inspector Melanie Oncescu, Duty Inspector with the Calgary Police Service.
“Until we know that the danger is gone, we have to respond as if there is still a person with a gun in the apartment and take every precaution to protect citizens and first responders.”
No one was injured and they’re still searching for a suspect.
