Popular Calgary pub won’t open on May 14

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – While many Calgary restaurants are getting ready for the possibility to open again next week, a well-known pub is holding off on that decision.

In a post on its Facebook page, The Ship and Anchor said they will not be opening on May 14 as they don’t feel it’s safe to do so.

“There is still a lot of work required to figure out how to set up for the pub to operate, including sourcing a supply of suitable PPE for our staff and figuring out how we can provide the ‘distancing’ required to operate safely and within the guidelines.”

“We cannot wait until it is completely gone before we reopen our businesses and restore our social lives, but we must prepare for the fact that this relaunch will not be business as usual, and we all have a responsibility to maintain behaviours which help to negate the threat at hand.”

The pub said it will continue to offer delivery and take out.

As part of the province’s relaunch strategy, restaurants and bars can offer dine-in service as early as May 14, but only at 50 per cent capacity and with other restrictions in place.
