Thousands of masks being given to Calgary Transit riders

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – You might notice some changes if you’re taking the bus or CTrain this week.
The provincial government has provided Calgary Transit with 200,000 face masks that, as of Monday, are being handed out at stations throughout the city.
Acting director of Calgary Transit, Russell Davies said the masks are free and will help riders follow the recommendations of health officials.
“This is part of an overall package where we worked with the province where they donated 500,000 masks to the City of Calgary. Calgary Transit is just taking part to try and help distribute 200,000 of those to members of the public and Calgary Transit riders.”
Davies said while it’s not mandatory for transit riders to wear a mask, it is highly encouraged.
“This wearing of a mask, this caring for your fellow passengers, for your communities, that’s the kind of approach we’re trying to take rather than impose a law.”
One of the other changes taking effect are barriers installed in buses to help protect both riders and drivers.
